Is it just me, or gear delays have become more common than ever? The new Sony 35mm f/1.4 G Master was supposed to start shipping in a few days. And now Sony Japan has published an announcement saying that we’ll have to wait a little longer after all.

The release date was supposed to be 12 February, and the lens was supposed to start shipping on 15 February. Sony claims that “production reasons” caused the delay, but there’s no further explanation. Here’s the Google-translated announcement:

“Apology and notice of postponement of the release of lens FE 35mm F1.4 GM “SEL35F14GM” and lens hood “ALC-SH164” for digital single-lens camera α [E mount]

Thank you for your continued patronage of Sony products.

Regarding the above, the release date was set to “February 12, 2021 (Friday)” at the time of the press announcement on January 14, 2021 (Thursday). Lens for digital single-lens camera α [E mount] FE 35mm F1. Regarding 4 GM “SEL35F14GM”, we have decided to postpone the release due to production reasons. In addition, the release of the lens hood “ALC-SH164” will be postponed accordingly. We will inform you about the release date as soon as it is confirmed.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to customers who are looking forward to the information just before the release.”

Okay, so the 35mm f/1.4 G Master won’t start shipping next week, but when can we expect it? For now, no one knows. Sony writes that the shipping date is “to be determined.” But the preorders are open anyway, although you’ll wait for your lens a little longer.
