Some users report Galaxy S20 camera glass is breaking for no apparent reason

The new Samsung Galaxy S20 comes with great camera capabilities. However, what doesn’t seem to be so great is the build of the glass that covers it. Over the past two months, a number of users have complained that the camera glass is too brittle and shatters for no apparent reason.
There are numerous reports on Reddit, Twitter, and Samsung Community referring to the same issue. For some users, the crack looks like a thin line. For others, it looks way more severe, like someone punched a hole through the glass.

It appears that the circumstances under which the glass broke also differ between users. A few of them say that it happened while the phone was in their pocket. One user claims the crack appeared while setting up his wireless charger. What all of them have in common is that they hadn’t been rough to their phones or dropped them.
However, it looks like this damage doesn’t fall under warranty, despite users’ claims that it just happened on its own. This kind of damage is seen as “cosmetic damage” and it’s not covered by warranty. The cheapest option is to take it to Samsung’s official repair center and pay $100 if you’re a Samsung Premium Care member, Sam Mobile writes. And for those who are not Premium Care members, the repair costs $400.

I’m honestly surprised by the number of people who have reported the same issue. And it’s a pretty unusual one. Users believe that it’s some kind of a design flaw, and I guess that’s a logical explanation. But, Samsung hasn’t acknowledged it anywhere yet nor is there an official statement regarding the issue. We’ll keep you posted if Samsung issues an official statement on this problem. And in the meantime, let us know if you’ve experienced this, too.

It’s the 5G mannnn
Happened to my HTC one m9
Curious to ask, I saw so many people show their phones broken the camera glass….
But the problem is, why the broken area is exactly at the camera Len area but not others…
???
When you zoom to much.
The camera specs are “a 48-megapixel 100x zoom camera and a 108-megapixel main camera.” Drawing so much light instantaneously creates a black hole. Some science predicts the whole universe will end this way.
No
Happened to me.
Samsung want $600 to repair for something that was mis-handled / dropped etc…
Same problem with a 5 day old S20+. 5G Picked it up from the couch and noted round bullet hole around camera. Never dropped or anything. This is appalling!!
I would say the cheapest thing to do is to NOT buy Samsung. I was looking to upgrade but there are WAY too many complaints…
You gotta be kidding me. A decade of owning Samsung phones and no cracks. Three weeks of owning an S20+ with a case and front screen protector and already an overnight crack on the camera glass. I called Samsung, they said by reporting the crack I’ve now automatically VOIDED THE WARRANTY. Just like that. For $117 I can send the phone to them and wait 11 days to get it back, but the WARRANTY IS VOIDED EITHER WAY!
I’m officially done with Samsung from this point forward. Selling the phone cracked camera glass and all, then buying a Pixel or the new iPhone. Samsuing FAILED on this one big time. They lost a lifetime customer. They think they’re too big to go down a few ranks, but just watch as every owner eventually gets a crack on the camera glass and gets the same response.
