Instagram is rolling out a new feature that will allow users to add polls to the comments section of their photo posts and Reels. That is, if you really care what people think of your photographs.
Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, announced this development, stating that users will soon be able to engage their followers with interactive polls in the comments section.
“We’re starting a small test to add a poll or vote on one in the comments of a feed post or reel,” revealed Mosseri. He emphasized Instagram’s commitment to enhancing user interaction and engagement. He also asked users who come across this test to provide feedback on their experience.
Currently, the new polls feature is being tested among a limited audience. However, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that it will soon be accessible to all Instagram users, stating that it will be “rolling out to everyone soon.”
Instagram is already no stranger to polls, as it offers a dedicated sticker for creating polls in Stories. The polls in the comments section will apparently share a similar format to those found in Stories. Users will be able to ask questions and gather responses directly in the comments of their posts and Reels, fostering more interaction within the platform.
I can see how this might be useful for brands that want to gather information from their potential customers. However, for most of us, it’s probably going to be little more than just a bit of fun. Afterall, should we really care which photos people like more? Just keep posting whatever you like!
