As the launch date approaches, new information of the upcoming Nikon mirrorless cameras keeps coming in. That’s right, you read it well: cameras. The previous rumors that Nikon is launching two full-frame mirrorless cameras instead of one have been confirmed. And in addition, three lenses to accompany the cameras are coming on 23 August, too.

Just like the previous report suggested, Nikon will launch two camera models: one with 24MP and the other with a 45 MP full frame sensor. This time, we heard of the two upcoming cameras’ names: the 24 MP model will be named Nikon Z6, and the 45MP model will be named Nikon Z7. Also, the lenses for the new mirrorless system will likely be called Z-Nikkor, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

According to Nikon Rumors, Nikon will focus on high-end prime lenses for their new mirrorless cameras. And while we’re at the lenses for the new system: three of them are reportedly coming on 23 August, along with the cameras:

  • 24-70mm f/4
  • 50mm f/1.8
  • a more wide angle lens (24mm f/1.8 or 28mm f/1.8 or 35mm f/1.8)

While the lenses mentioned above should be launched together with the cameras, there’s one more lens to come later. Nikon Rumors reports that Nikon Z-Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/0.95 lens is coming after 23 August, but there’s no exact date yet. It’s not a very common type of lens, but it will surely have its purpose. After all, judging from Nikon’s NOCT trademark, there might be an emphasis on the low-light performance.

The new Nikon mirrorless system’s mount has caused a lot of debate. The patent suggests that its diameter will be 49mm, but previous rumors indicate that it will be 55mm. According to Nikon Rumors, the fourth teaser video should give us a more insight about that and provide us with the closer look of the mount.

Of course, there’s still so much to be discovered about the upcoming Nikon mirrorless system and many rumors to be confirmed. But until 23 August (and perhaps another teaser video), this is all we’ve got so far.
