we’ve heard about cases where using social media inadequately can you in “serious results” as my parents used to say. But this is the first time I am hearing that liking an Instagram post got someone suspended. Actually, not just someone, but over 20 students from Bradford Preparatory School in Charlotte, NC. According to WCNC, an Instagram post referring a school shooting was uploaded to Instagram and every student who liked the post got suspended.
While the photo may be innocent, the caption references a shool shooting. Though there is no specific threat, the kids who took the photo are being dealt with and the the 20+ students who “liked” the photo are being suspended. Here is what the school let the community know in a statement they issued the day of the event:
The parents are not happy, and one of them told NBC something that I agree with:
Twenty plus students could’ve learned a lesson today, not necessarily been sent out of school for three days
