The popular gear rental website Lensrentals now has a brand new feature: buying the gear you like. If you want to buy used gear, you can now do it straight to Lensrentals and be sure that it’s been refurbished, tested, and in working condition.
From now on, you’ll see a “Keeper page” on the website with gear available for purchase other than a rental. There are multiple filters you can apply, including the gear type, brand, mount, compatibility, and more.
When you click on each item, you’ll see more about it. Other than its general specs, you’ll see details about a particular piece. The Lensrentals team tests and then grades each item between 1 and 4: 1 meaning “exceptional” and 4 meaning “flawed.” You get to see the overall condition, cosmetic and performance grading, some details about the particular model, and of course – the price.
You still have the option to rent the gear on the Keeper page, or you can just go and buy it immediately. But there’s also an option to rent it first and keep it if you like it. In this case, you can become a part of the new Keeper Test Drive program. If you rent the gear, use it for a while and you want to keep it, you can. You need to contact the Lensrentals team and ask to buy it. They will give you a unique price and you can also deduct up to seven days of rental fees from the final sum. In my opinion, I think this is perfect. It’s a hassle-free way to try something out and buy it if it works for you. Plus, you know that it’s been tested and exactly what to expect from it.
So, if you think any of the new options will work for you, you can check out all the available gear here.
