A few weeks ago, Instagram began testing a new feature that would let you follow hashtags. As of today, this feature is officially available. In addition to Instagram users you like, you can now also follow hashtags that reflect your interests and passions.

In addition to introducing a new feature, Instagram is testing another one. They may soon roll out the “Recommended for You” section, which will be a major change for Instagram.

Follow hashtags

The new “follow hashtags” feature was officially rolled out yesterday. As a post on Instagram blog reads, this should make it “easier to stay connected with the interests, hobbies, passions and communities you care about.”

This feature will make the posts more discoverable for the users and help them get connected to their interests faster. Although, I think it will make them spend even more time on this social network. On the other hand, I guess this feature can be useful for photographers. It might make it easier for them to reach their target audience through specific hashtags.

If you’d like to follow a specific hashtag, all you need to do is search for it, and Instagram will offer you an option to follow it.

Recommended for You

As The Verge writes, this feature is still in the test phase. In addition to following hashtags, it’s also supposed to bring you closer to the content you may like.

It’s important to note that “Recommended for You” has nothing to do with sponsored posts. Instead, this section will include posts liked by the people you follow, or photos that Instagram’s algorithm believes you’d like based on your activity. According to The Verge, the users will be able to hide the “Recommended for You” section. Fortunately.
