Film beat out GoPros and drones as the best-selling photo gear on Amazon this holiday season

Fujifilm Instax

Amazon has become the go-to place for holiday shopping. This year was no exception, with the Seattle-based web retailer raking in record numbers of Prime subscriptions, hardware purchases and, most importantly, overall revenue.

One of the most interesting tidbits in Amazon’s annual holiday sales report is the product that takes the top spot in the photography category.

Film.

Yes, that film.

According to Amazon, the best selling product in the Camera category was Fujifilm’s Instax Mini Instant Film Twin Pack – White, a 20-sheet film pack designed for Fujifilm’s growing lineup of Instax cameras.

While this is good news for those who prefer emulsion over pixels, it might not be quite as impressive as it seems. At $15 (roughly $.75 per sheet), the Instax Mini Instant Film Twin Pack is one of the least expensive products in Amazon’s inventory. This makes it far easier to rack up large numbers in terms of products shipped.

In fact, if you take a look at the best sellers list, Fujifilm Instax products make up 6 of the top 10 products, 4 of which are other instant film pack options.

In an age where analogue is becoming more and more of a niche, it’s nice to see film flying off the shelves, even if it’s of the instant variety.
