Like all of the rich and famous, Elon Musk had a life long before he became the richest man in the world. And now pieces of that life have been sold, some for nearly $41,000. Musk’s ex-girlfriend put them up for an auction, and the majority of them include Musk’s old photos showing him as the young, baby-faced, and goofy man he once was.
Jennifer Gwynne dated Elon Musk for a year, from 1994 to 1995. They were both attending the University of Pennsylvania, and Gwynne says that he was her “first serious adult love.”. She recently auctioned off mementos from their relationship, even though they haven’t spoken since their breakup 27 years ago. They split when Musk moved to California where he launched his first start-up Zip2 in 1995. And the rest is history.
Gwynne sold 31 items at the auction, most of them being old photos of Elon Musk. It’s worth noting though that she did it to raise money for her stepson’s college tuition fees. The photos show young Musk smiling, goofing around, working at his computer, or hanging out with friends. You know, typical photos of a young (and a bit nerdy) college student. But these photos give us an insight into the previous life of the world’s richest man, so they’re way more interesting than your or my photos from college.
Other than photos, Gwynne also sold a signed birthday card Musk gave her, a signed dollar bill, and a 14k gold necklace that got the highest bid. This gift from Elon Musk to his college love was sold for $40,806, and the photos range from ~$1,000 up to ~$17,000.
