Eight photography podcasts you should follow for inspiration and education

Constant education and inspiration are important in photography. The worlds best photographers will share the fact that they’re constantly learning and refining their skills. A great way to get this inspiration is through podcasts that we can listen to in the background when we edit images. There have been a few new podcasts come onto the scene during and after lockdown. He Shoots He Draws

This podcast features a photographer and a designer as hosts – namely Alan Hess and Dave Clayton. They bring together a wealth of knowledge and experience, both being accomplished authors and experts in their fields. Their show offers a weekly dive into creativity, business, photography, design, and life. They’re straight-talking and funny, and their show features guests who complement the conversation.

Behind The Shot

Steve Brazill, a seasoned concert photographer and radio host, has created something sensational here. Every episode features a special guest and is all about one thing: getting inside their mind! The show is all about one photograph and Steve does an incredible job of describing the image to those listening rather than watching and interviewing the photographer about the process of creating the shot.

Camera Shake Podcast

Born out of lockdown, Kersten Luts and Nick Kirby created a show designed to take their photo, video and sound expertise, and bring it out in an entertaining way. They have regular guests that join the conversation and they go beyond photography, really allowing the listeners to get to know the guests.

Epic Photography Podcast

New to the scene, the Epic Photography Podcast brings with it a unique format. This podcast features 11 hosts on rotation, who mix and match for each episode and share their skills and knowledge across the visual creative arena. With each personality comes a different skill set, and each episode is designed to be educational and inspirational, with some humour thrown in.

Photography Daily

Host Neale James has come up with a great concept for his podcast. This experienced broadcaster and photographer takes a walk with his camera while talking about photos, cameras, photographers, and a load of other creative content that is sure to inspire listeners to pick up their camera and get out there.

Cameras or whatever

What a name! In this podcast, join Tyler Stalman in a high quality, laid back show with himself and other photographers. His skill as a commercial portrait photographer with an interest in landscapes provides him with many talking points. He gives an honest insight into gear and techniques, giving the listener a lot to take away.

The Candid Frame

This awesome podcast was started by Ibarionex Perello in 2020, and it’s focused on portrait photography. His voice is incredibly soothing and it’s very easy to listen to this podcast. This former technical engineer from Nikon has a great way of introducing guests and combing their experiences with his.

Six Figure Photography Podcast

Ben Hartley, a self-taught wedding photographer, hosts the Six Figure Photography Podcast. He has built a successful photography business and his aim is to share exactly how that happened through a series that looks at every aspect of the industry. This podcast is friendly and open and shares the experiences of Ben and his guests.

    The Candid Frame has been going since 2006 and covers more than just portraiture. Given that, I’m a bit skeptical of the other podcast descriptions, though I’m curious to check some of them out.
