The biggest headline with the EOS R5 is the 8K raw video, but why? Who needs it? Who’s got an 8K TV to actually watch it and make the most of it? Well, 8K recording abilities is for more than just shooting and watching 8K video. For a start, it leads to sharper 4K footage as you can scale down to overcome the limitations of Bayer filter arrays. It also allows you to shoot wide and crop in post for 4K projects to help with stabilisation in post or adding things like fake camera shake if you’re a JJ Abrams fan.
But what about photographers who aren’t interested in video? Well, you’ve got 12fps at 45-megapixels on a mechanical shutter, image stabilisation up to an incredible 8 stops, and dual-pixel autofocus that covers pretty much the entire sensor. There’s also an easy to read display on the top that lets you easily see your settings when you’ve got your camera down low on a tripod for those sweet landscapes.
Of course, it has that flippy out 3.2″ touchscreen LCD as well, which you can swing out for easy viewing from just about any angle, too. And when you go handheld, you’ve got a 5.67m-dot 0.5″ electronic viewfinder with an extremely fast 120fps refresh rate, allowing you to keep up with even the quickest subjects.
The EOS R5 has dual card slots. One is a CFexpress Type B for those high-speed demands for 8K video and fast high resolution burst shooting. The other is the SD card for when your needs are a little less speed-hungry, although it’s UHS-II, so you can still use some fairly rapid cards with it. The back features the much-loved joystick, and it features both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi, as well as Bluetooth connectivity for use with the Canon Camera Connect app.
The Canon EOS R5 is available to pre-order now for $3,899 body only or with the 24-105mm f/4L lens for $4,999. It ships at the end of July.

1053 af point?
Pretty much whole sensor coverage…
At $5300.00 Canadian…no thanks…not at that price point
actually after taxes is 6400$ CAN ad an Adapter 300$ for EF lenses.
That’s insane, that is like how much I paid for BOTH my Z6 and Z7 combined
For the money (over £4000 in the UK) it’s a bit underwhelming unless you REALLY need 8k. Can’t help but compare to Sony and see what that sort of money gets you.
But it’d be interesting to see some RAW files from that sensor though. A big reason I switched from Canon to Sony was the dynamic range offered by the Sony sensors.

Who will sell his kidney for this camera? ?
Definitely not me
you can wait few years, is not like 4k 60p will be obsolete soon; i currently shoot in 1080 and still happy
I preordered. If the R6 had a 28+mp sensor and clocked in at even $2K I probably would have gone that way.
No 4k RAW! ???
Canon had to cripple it somehow with the Canon Cripple Hammer
That’s nice, but they sure won’t be selling many at that price in this economy. 40+ million people out of work and more on the way.
I totally agree
Michael, people started planning for this and saving since the rumors of the release of the R. It won’t impact all that much.
What the YouTubers especially guys like Peter McKinnon who is a shill for Canon won’t show or tell you: https://www.eoshd.com/news/canon-eos-r5-has-serious-overheating-issues-in-both-4k-and-8k/
Michael Bray he sold his soul
Görän Resimövić He did big time as did Matti Haapoja and several other YouTubers
Well one thing is for sure, we won’t loose anything in waiting to see how it performs! I don’t wanna be the guy bitching about a product that doesn’t perform well…I wanna be the guy watching others bitching about that product not performing well…?
Daniel Tremblay You and me both…watch because of YouTubers like Peter McKinnon and Matti Haapoja and others, a bunch of people will rush out and preorder theirs, then once they get them, they will have a ton of issues and the rest of us can sit back and laugh at them.
Lucky americans! I hoped the R5 to be priced at 4k€ but now we know it sells for 4,4k which unfortunately is almost 5k in $ ?
Smoking hot deal
