Apply to this Maldives resort to 'win' a 3 week job as Honeymoon photographer

The azure water laps around your toes as you wander across the white sands, camera in hand. The Insta-worthy couple frolics at the water’s edge, hanging off your every direction. After a tough morning’s work, it’s time to download your images in a banana-leaf hut while sipping a freshly squeezed fruit mocktail.

It’s a hard life, and it could be yours for three weeks anyway. The luxury travel company Kuoni is looking for an amateur or pro photographer to shoot honeymooning couples in the Maldives. All expenses included, plus you’re getting paid to be there. It almost sounds too good to be true. So what’s the catch?

The selected person will also be able to bring “an assistant” of their choice. Cue many photographers’ other halves scrambling to learn how to hold lighting equipment (as if they weren’t already being used as voice-activated light stands!).

The lucky photographer (plus ‘assistant’) will get to stay in four different Kuoni-run luxury resorts in the Maldive islands, all expenses paid, including food and drink. On top of that, they will receive a fee of $3700 for the three-week assignment. There’s no mention of whether flights will also be covered, but I’d hope so. The Maldives are fairly remote, situated in the Indian Ocean, and they aren’t served by budget airlines like Ryanair!

As part of the role, the winner will also receive a one-on-one coaching session with Sandra Von Reikoff, a celebrity wedding photographer whose work has appeared in publications such as Vogue and Hello.

Kuoni’s Director of Communications, Rachel O’Reilly, told TimeOut: ‘A Kuoni honeymoon is unforgettable, but now we’re offering our customers the chance to share and capture their earliest days as newlyweds. Our new Honeymoon Photographer-In-Residence will be on-island with our customers, capturing their most special moments together, which they can cherish and relive forever.’

It almost sounds too good to be true. So what’s the catch? It’s essentially a marketing stunt disguised as a photography competition. However, it does sound rather alluring. My main issue would be actually having to photograph honeymooning couples! The Hotel Ranga in Iceland has run two similar competitions in the past couple of years, and it’s proved very popular.

If you’d like to apply, you can do so through Kuoni’s website here. You’ll have to submit your best shots and, of course, write a little spiel about why you’d be great for the job. The closing date is April 28th, with the winner announced May 10, 2023.
