This free bokeh app makes the best out of your iPhone photos

iPhone’s “Portrait Mode” is a rather useful feature, and gives neat results. You can even see more and more magazine covers shot on iPhone with the “Portrait Mode”. But, if you don’t like the effect or simply want to add some versatility to it – check out a free app named Focos.
This app lets you add more types of bokeh to the photos you take with your iPhone – from creamy to swirly. The developers promise a “real bokeh effect,” and judging from the sample photos, the bokeh really does look good.
Some of the main features of Focos include taking a photo with the desired bokeh effect directly by pressing the shutter. You can also tap to focus after taking the shot. If you want to edit the bokeh on the photo you already took before, you can do that, too.
As for the bokeh options, there are customizable bokeh looks that “simulate the pro lens.” You can choose creamy, bilinear, swirly and other bokeh looks. You can also view the portraits in 3D mode and add filters based on the depth. The app also promises the effects of rainy, snowy or foggy weather with depth filters.
Focos is intended for iPhone’s with dual cameras: iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. I don’t know how (and if) it works on phones with a single camera, but it requires Requires iOS 11.0 or later, and it’s compatible with iPhone 5s and later. After all, since the app is free, you can download it from Apple Store and try it out no matter which iPhone or iPad you have. I’m not an iPhone user so I can’t try Focos myself, but as far as I can see from the sample images, it really gives neat results. I especially like the swirly bokeh. This is smart stuff! Really! Amazing how you can adjust the front/back OOF areas – but a subscription service (essentially) for the pro features?! Really?! Who are they, Adobe? ?

Well, you can download it and install it, but it won’t work unless you have a Dual Camera. You can’t even pay aroun with photos from your camera roll (Just tried this on iPhone SE with latest iOS version). So it clearly needs the data from the dual camera to ‘mask’ the area it can apply the ‘bokeh’ to.

Does not work on iPhone 5. You just get a sample picture to play with, that’s it.
