Just days after announcing the extraordinary a7R II, Sony has announced the 2.0 software version for its popular a6000, a7, a7R and a7S.

Reducing the start-up time for all cameras, and brining XAVC-S recording to the a6000, the download links should become available shortly.

Olympus also released firmware updates for two of its E-system cameras: the E-M1 and E-M5 Mark II.

You know how you see a killer shot but by the time you get your camera out and turn it on it is too late? Super frustrating, isn’t it? Sony’s latest firmware update won’t solve this issue completely, and you will still wait on your camera, but it will significantly improve it.

If you own an a6000 camera you will not only enjoy faster start-up times but also XAVC-S recording, in addition to the existing AVCHD and MP4 formats.

You can see a first sample XAVC-S recordings on the a6000 below:

Olympus_1Version 3.1 for the E-M1 adds “Underwater” function to the Picture Mode and “Live View Boost 2” function, while version 1.2 for the E-M5 Mark II only adds the “Underwater” mode.

Olympus_2Unlike the Sony cameras, the Olympus cameras can already be updated by following these instructions.

Such a great news. Just made an firmware upgrade on sony a6000 , but sadly find out, that only sdxc cards in size of 64gb or bigger allows XAVC-S recording.

Hi Toms, how did you figure out? That option even shows up for me, is it because the small card I have? Thanks!

Hi Marco, after I stuck at this warning that I need a different SD card, I googled that this particular format XAVC-S supports only SDXC cards(smallest size 64gb), because it needs exFat file system, not FAT32 which is in SDHC type of cards. Also tried to just reformat my 32gb sd card, but that didn’t help, so only option is to get new SDXC card.
