Watch: A thief “lifting” a camera while photographer is shooting a wedding

Here is a video pushing my faith in humanity just a bit int he wrong direction. Greek photography site, PTTL, shared a story and a video showing a person borrowing a Sony camera and a lens from the photographer’s bag.
According to PTTL, photographers Vagelis Tolis and Stavros Kostakos were covering a wedding at St. Dionysius Areopagite Catholic Cathedral in Athens on December 27th. You can see one of the photographers handling the gear, then going about their shooting routine. A man sits by the gear and “relocates” a Sony camera and a lens into a bag he brought with him. That man then exits the cathedral with the camera and the lens.
The camera serial is 3794807, if you see it begin sold, you can contact Vagelis Tolis.
This is a reminder that while most of the people are good, you still need to be careful with your gear.

would’ve saved, boo-coo $$ if he paid someone $100. to watch his shit.
Let’s blame the victim for someone else’s shitty actions.
Yeah exactly. That guy is a POS and deserves to get caught. He should have to pay back all gear as new… And prison time on top
Not just caught.. Deserves to be beaten.
Look, even the church had enough sense to put CCTVs. Never ever trust your gear to the kindness of strangers. I hope the tog gets his gear back but David’s advice is well placed. If you’re a working pro and bringing expensive equipment around, hiring someone to watch it isn’t such a bad idea.
If that’s your reaction after you read the article then not even your “faith”, in what ever, will save you.
His face is very visible. Let’s spread the video and get him lynched, pitch forks and torches and all.
why leave the bag so far away from the service area…especially if the Church was open to the public !!
Saying that, no excuse for the twat who stole the camera…hope no work was on it?
Hence why you keep a heavy monopod with spiked feet nearby… I would have beat him with with one
That’s kind of cringy and concerning.
Sad to say when I shot weddings I secured anything not in my hands in the trunk of my car.
Asshole
I place a personal alarm in my gear bags, open one of them and a 140db screech will draw the attention of everyone for miles, well, maybe not miles, LOL. At less than £10.00 each they are well worth the investment.
Also attach a warning sticker to inform that the bags are wired up.
I am a wedding photographer and I always try and gear up from my car and then lock it and if I have to take my cases inside the venue I will hide them back in the storage room that only the staff are allowed in and will give funny looks to people who go near said door. Haven’t had anything stolen yet but I always check on my gear throughout the day just in case.
