A few years back we tested the original Lume Cube vs the Litra torch. We were pretty aggressive and we threw the lights, froze them, and dunked them in water. Since then, Litra advanced to Litra Torch 2.0, and Lume Cube recently released the Lume Cube 2.0. We wanted to revisit our review and see how the two new Action Lights compare. This time though, no lights were hurt during the shooting.

You can watch the video for the full review or read the highlights below. But first, let us know which of the lights you would like to buy give someone for this holiday season.

Form factor: pretty much the same. Both lights kept their housing from the previous version.

Waterproof: The Litra Torch 2.0 goes down to 60′ and Lume Cube 2.0 down to 30′. Unless you know you are diving deep, this is not something that really matters.

Beam Angle: again, it’s almost identical, and does not really matter: 70° on the Litra Torch 2.0 and 80° on the Lume Cube 2.0.

Photometrics: The Litra Torch has a slightly better CRI and more natural color. (tested CRI/CCT were 5,700K, 93RA vs 6,100K 92RA).

Brightness: the Litra was almost double as bright at the center of the beam than the Lume Cube (256 Lux vs 495 Lux @1 meter)

Runtime: @ Full power, the Litra Torch 2.0 is 5 minutes short of the Lume Cube 2.0 40 minutes. At similar brighter though, it almost doubles the time.

Cables: “old” micro USB for the Torch, modern USB-C for the Cube.

Control: Full Manual for the Litra Torch, nifty App for the Lume Cube

Included accessories: both lights have a cable,  a cold shoe mount, and some diffusion. The Torch has a GoPro mount, magnetic mounting discs, and a belt clip, the Cube has a warming filter.

From my perspective, The Torch is better on some aspects while the Cube on others. So depending on your needs you will choose one over the other. Which one are you getting?

The most important metric is missing, which could make or break the decision: pricing??

      Hi Jurgen,
There is a list price for both. But their street price on Amazon and b&h is constantly changing with some sort of sale.

Thanks Udi, I saw that and understand the variability. My point was that the info should have been given in the text. There are people like me who prefer to read, rather than watch, which is always more lengthy.

As a diver… Why would i pick half the run time and half the depth?

I own both the Litra torch and the Litra torch pro and I honestly couldn’t be happier with how well this light performs they can be slightly bright for close up thing if I need or be blinding bright to perfectly illuminate big landscapes. I’ve used both products many times for gigs, and both hold up well, but when it came time to buy a set of my own the Litra was such an easy choice to make and I’ve never looked back.

I have been using the Litra torch since the day it came out and it is a top notch product. I even used it in the military while on deployment at sea. The magnet was a crucial decision in buying it as it allowed is to stick the light on the bulkhead.

Udi, I don’t agree: “ Beam Angle: again, it’s almost identical, and does not really matter:“ Beam angle matters so much, as a lot are super wide and therefore useless in my eyes. Maybe you’re saying it doesn’t matter because they are almost the same. Then, I said nothing.

well, the difference between 70 and 80 is almost unnoticeable from our tests. so yea, nothing :)

Litra Torch is the best!! I have been using it for over two years and the light output is powerful yet flattering on my subjects. I also love that its magnetic so I can attach it to a metal surface allowing me to use both hands to take pictures.

Never knew about the Litra. BHPhoto had the LumeCube 2.0 kit with Filters, girds, snoots, barn doors, diffusers, and a nice case with 2 units for $189. I thought that was pretty good, and very happy with the lights. And being able to control two lights individually and go from 1% to 100%, and turn them on and off instantly with the app via bluetooth on my iPhone is wickedly cool!
