When it comes to art, I’m very much in the “but I know what I like” camp. I just don’t really do “art”, but I was immediately drawn to William Wegman’s work when I first discovered it a number of years ago.
In this video from The Art of Photography’s Artist Series, Wegman talks about his photography, his paintings, his work with video, and discovering the joy of 20×24 Polaroids.
As somebody who photographs animals, it was inevitable that I’d stumble upon his work at some point, and while some of it might be classed as being slightly strange (ok, maybe more than slightly), I was hooked the instant I saw it. Listening to his thought process in interviews and documentaries is always insightful and inspiring.

Talking about the struggles of student artists, his influences, painting, video, some of the turning points in his career, how it’s evolved and how he feels with where he is today, the ten minute video is a whirlwind introduction to Wegman’s life and work that barely touches the surface.

Best known for his work with Weimaraners, Wegman still photographs dog, publishing an annual calendar of new material, as well as regularly producing books of his paintings and photography.

You can find out more about William Wegman and see some more of his work over on his website, and you can follow The Art of Photography on YouTube.
