Vimeo is the latest company to jump onto the generative AI bandwagon. The video-sharing platform has announced a host of new tools and features that promise to make it much easier and quicker to get your videos to a polished state ready for publishing.
There will be three new tools available: a text-based editor that can delete long pauses and filler words, a transcript search for finding specific clips, and a script generator.
The video hosting platform says most people “lack the skills, time, or resources to effectively create and edit videos,” and these new features are meant to eliminate those barriers.
The single-click silence and “um” eliminator sounds like an incredibly useful tool, particularly for anyone that includes interviews in their videos.
Similarly, the search tool would be perfect for turning longer-form content into short-form videos for social media. In a very short amount of time, you can find exactly the right keyword in the transcript and then highlight and select the “keep only this” option.
The script editor uses Open AI’s ChatGPT technology, according to Techcrunch. It is capable of producing a script based on inputted tone and style parameters. It can then be passed through the Teleprompter tool, all in a matter of minutes.
Ashraf Alkarmi, Vimeo’s chief product officer, says that the new capabilities are aimed at entry-level video creators. “Despite being the most effective way to communicate powerful messages, video production inherently creates a barrier to this preferred communication channel,” Alkarmi told TechCrunch. “Our latest AI-powered workflow reduces those barriers, giving any creator the confidence to actually create videos in one take.”
These new tools will be available from July 2023 and will be included in the Vimeo standard subscription plan of $20/month.
