If you are passionate about rare lenses, here’s a treat for you. A Berthiot Monital 130mm f/1.0 cine lens is currently being sold on eBay. Other than being very rare and having a wide aperture, it has a pretty unique trait: it produces triangular bokeh.
The seller describes the lens as being in good condition, with “beautiful original coating” with a few marks. According to the listing, the original aperture “works perfectly.”
“Some dusts and marks on inside elements (photos) totally invisible on photos. Look at pictures carefully, these are part of the description. It covers APS-C frame with very little vignetting (last sample photo).”
In the posting, you can see a sample image taken with a Sony A7s. The triangular bokeh sure looks interesting and unusual. But because of the lens’ rarity, it comes with a high price tag. The current offer is €16,000, or approximately $18,455.
If you have $18,500 to spare, go ahead and place your offer. Those with a limited budget could perhaps look into getting this cheap lens with square bokeh, or just DIY the triangular shape bokeh. Or any other shape, for that matter.
