If you’ve been eyeing Lomography’s modern Petzval lenses, there’s now a way to grab three of them in one go, and save some cash in the process. The new Joseph Petzval Focus-Coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens Launch Bundle includes the 35 mm f/2, 55 mm f/1.7, and 80.5 mm f/1.9 versions, covering wide to short-telephoto.

This new series of lenses reimagines Joseph Petzval’s iconic 19th-century portrait lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. However, it adds something the original never had: focus-coupled bokeh control. That means you can dial in the signature swirly background blur without knocking your subject out of focus, which is especially handy for video work.

What’s Special About These Lenses?

1. Focus-Coupled Bokeh Control (A First for Petzval Lenses)

The standout feature of this series is the focus-coupled bokeh control, which lets you adjust the swirl intensity without shifting focus. This is a big deal for videographers, as it allows smooth transitions between subtle and dramatic bokeh mid-shot. There are seven levels of bokeh adjustment, giving you precise control over the look of your backgrounds.

2. Classic Petzval Character with Modern Refinements

Like the original 19th-century Petzval design, these lenses deliver sharp centres with swirling, velvety bokeh at the edges. But they also include modern upgrades:

  • Stopless aperture & focus rings (great for video)
  • 180° focus throw for precise manual control
  • 67mm filter threads
  • Anodised aluminium construction
  • Uniform gear positioning across all focal lengths (so you don’t have to recalibrate follow-focus systems when switching lenses)

3. A Bundle That Saves You Money

The current three-lens bundle includes:

  • 55mm f/1.7 (shipping August 2025)
  • 80.5mm f/1.9 (shipping August 2025)
  • 35mm f/2 (shipping November 2025)

Buying the bundle saves you $250 compared to purchasing the lenses separately. You’ll also get a cashback voucher to use toward the upcoming 27mm and 135mm lenses when they launch.

Lens by lens

  • 35 mm f/2 – New to the Petzval lineup. A close focus of 0.4 m, a wider, sharper area than the longer lenses, and still plenty of swirl around the edges. Good for environmental portraits, two-shots, or golden-ratio framing. Ships later in 2025.
  • 55 mm f/1.7 – A natural “normal” view with classic Petzval character. Great for portraits or isolating details without going too tight.
  • 80.5 mm f/1.9 – Short-telephoto with flattering compression, razor-sharp centres, and strong subject separation. Very much the portrait specialist of the trio.
