After the 35mm f/2.8 lens announced in June, Samyang is expanding their line for another 35mm lens. This time, they are announcing a fast 35mm f/1.4 lens for Sony E-mount. Samyang 35mm f/1.4FE is another autofocus lens in their line-up, intended for Sony full frame cameras.

Samyang 35mm f/1.4FE  competes Zeiss, and it’s almost half the price of the Sony Distagon T* FE 35mm f/1.4 ZA. It comes with a price tag of £599, which is around $790.

With this lens, Samyang’s line-up of autofocus lenses counts four. They also offer 14mm f/2.8 FE, 50mm f/1.4 FE and the aforementioned 35mm f/2.8 FE. The new 35mm f/1.4 FE is faster than the previous 35mm model, and it’s aimed at full frame Sony E mount cameras from Sony α7 or α9 series.

The lens features 11 elements in 9 groups, 2 aspherical lenses and 2 high-refractive lenses. It also has “Ultra Multi Coating” which should reduce flare and ghosting.

According to ePhotozine, the optical design of this lens puts various aberrations and light dispersion to a minimum. The autofocus is fast, precise and quiet. With the f/1.4 aperture, this lens is “ideal for professional photography including low-light events, landscapes and portraits with expressive characteristics.”

We still have to see how the lens performs, of course. But according to the charts comparing the Sony Zeiss Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA with the Samyang 35mm f/2.8 FE, Samyang kept up quite well with Zeiss. I guess we’ll get to see the charts for the new Samyang 35mm f/1.4FE soon, and of course – the sample images and real-life comparisons.

As for the availability, the lens will be officially available globally from November 2017. As mentioned, the suggested retail price will be £599 (around $790).
