Cheap light panels and cheap softboxes to go along are a lifesaver when you’re on a tight budget. But softbox with a spongy strap can’t be attached quickly (especially if you’re clumsy). Also, it won’t stay in place when you attach it to the LED panel. This video by Macroscope Pictures will show you how to solve this problem in less than $3 and upgrade your softbox for any of your “run and gun” projects.

The gear used in the video includes an $8 collapsible light diffuser and a $33 160 LED Panel. Because of the model of both, they don’t really seem to stick together. Now, if you want to upgrade a setup that costs $40, you probably don’t want to spend lots of money. So this is a pretty good solution, as it falls under “low-budget” category, yet it’s pretty helpful.
You will need:
- Some sticky-back Velcro
- Some super glue (optional)
And that’s pretty much it.
How to do it:
Add pieces of Velcro along three edges of the softbox. Leave the bottom edge empty because it will make it faster for attaching and removing the softbox from the LED panel.
Stick a strip of Velcro along the edge of the LED panel. This way you can attach the softbox to it.
If the glue on the back of the Velcro isn’t strong enough, you could use some super glue to make it stick better.
And again, that’s it.
This quick and easy upgrade allows you to add and remove softbox onto the LED panel in a flash, and it also helps it stay in place. It costs almost nothing, and it’s a nice upgrade if you use a cheap panel and softbox.
