Have you ever wondered how big and bright an LED panel can get? Matt from DIY Perks has, and he decided to do something more than just imagine it. He created something that can easily be the world’s largest DIY LED panel. In this video, he shows us the process of making. And when he does it, it seems quite easy.
He had a huge pile of leftover LED strips from his previous project. Since they were just collecting dust, he decided to put them to a good use and build a huge (and extremely bright) LED panel.
Matt first stuck the LED strips to a large board. He doesn’t mention the material, but it seems it’s an MDF. Then, he made cables for powering the board. He chopped off mains cables, exposed the copper inside and then plaited them together. Each of the cables for his panel contains six mains cables. Since the panel uses an insane amount of energy, these cables should be able to be good conductors.
Next, he poked the cables through two holes on each side of the board, and stapled them to it. Then he soldered the cables to the LED strips so that each side has its own polarity.
The panel ended up being quite big, with over 4000 LEDs on it. So, he needed a really strong power source. Matt used a battery which can deliver 240A, or just under 3kw of electricity. And it worked. The battery was strong enough to power the LED panel, which turned out to be insanely bright.
So, if you ever need sunlight in the middle of the night, now you know how to make it on your own. Would you try it out?
