Two Canadian photographers, Peter Andrew and Derek Blais, have come up with a pretty awesome project. For their Point Blank Project, the two have been photographing a wide variety of handguns and turning them into really cool pieces of art after being inspired by the work of Robert Longo. All the shots are taken in similar style–on a clean white background, barrel pointing at the camera. But, what really makes the photos stand out is how detailed the images are.
In a recent interview (which you can watch in the video below), the photographers revealed they use focus stacking to create the highly detailed photos. When all is said and done, a single one of their finished images can sometimes consist of 60-80 frames–all perfectly blended in post.
The project is represented by Station 16 Gallery in Canada with plans of bringing the collection to an international audience in the near future, so be sure to stay on the lookout!

I’m a gun enthusiast and professional photographer. They had NO respect for safety. That 38 special is loaded! Those guns do not come with a safety. I think that they set a bad example, because other photographers without gun safety knowledge are going to try this, hopefully that don’t shoot themselves.
There are four rules….
3 of which they broke….
Guns don’t magically go off by themselves. In the case of the .38 you pointed out, it would take a full DAO trigger pull to make that gun off. You also don’t know if there was any powder in the cases. This was completely safe.
Well, DSLRs have remote triggers, and new cameras can be controlled using cellphones… it’s just common sense.
not sure what’s the point. fully in focus and full of detail is something that any still life photographer should be able to acheive. not particularly shocking and could have been lit a lot better too..
but then…I just don’t like guns…
Surprised the two dudes were able to let each other speak, sort of. JUSSSSTT SOOOO EXCITED TO SHARE HOW WE LAAAAYERED THESE IN PHOTOCHOP TO CREATE THISSSS INFINITE DOF AND SHOW SOME RESPEK TO THE OTHER ARTIST.
