Getting started with something completely new can be overwhelming, and film developing is no exception. Film and paper manufacturer Ilford has published a series of videos that will help you to get started. From loading film to producing your very first print, this series will teach you all the basic darkroom techniques that you need to know.
The newer videos from the series are hosted by Rachel Brewster-Wright from Little Vintage Photography. There are 16 videos in the playlist, some of them are older, but they’re still very useful. And all of them are easy to follow even if you’re an absolute beginner. Personally, I’ve always wanted to develop my own film, and I’m still afraid to start. There are multiple reasons though: I’m afraid I’ll mess up the film, I find it overwhelming to learn everything from scratch, and it’s expensive and difficult to find all the chemicals in Serbia. Still, tutorials like this take away two out of three worries, teaching us how to do something new and creative step by step.
I’ll embed a few videos below for your preview. Make sure to follow Ilford on YouTube, where you can also find the entire How To… series.
