We love gear! And more importantly, we love what can be created using that gear. DIYP is currently covering the IBC Show 2022 in Amsterdam. We will be interviewing a lot of brands, showcasing our sponsors and introducing a lot of new gear. But in order to do that, we need our own equipment!

In this video, Udi walks you through the video and audio set-up and equipment and shows you exactly what and how the team are using it.

Cameras

The main piece of gear we are using is obviously the cameras. We have chosen to use two Sony FX 3 bodies. This camera provides the perfect balance between weight, size, and portability. We are shooting at 10 bits and this will give us decent footage no matter where we are filming. The show is full to the brim with different lighting and colour temperatures and this will help us cope with those challenges.

These cameras are mounted onto a Small Rig cage to allow all of the other gear to be attached safely and comfortably. It also means that our shooters can move about busy halls easily and stealthily.

Audio

We’re using the Sennheiser AVX system to record audio. It has a tiny footprint and allows you to use both a lav mic and a reporter mic. We are using both of these as you’ll see in our interviews with brands and exhibitors.

We are also using the G4 from Sennheiser. The great thing about this system is that it uses its own frequency rather than the public 2.4ghz. That means that in a busy room with other people using the same frequencies, we have minimum interference.

Headphones

We’re using the Sennheiser HG25 headphones for monitoring the audio.

Lighting

There’s plenty of lighting going on at IBC but when we need a little extra fill we have the tiny LitraPro. Unfortunately, they don’t make these anymore, but they are a great little light that gets the job done.

Lenses

We’ll be using two 24-70mm zoom lenses. On the main camera it will be the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8, and on the second camera the Zeiss 24-70mm f/4. These zooms allow us the maximum quality for versatility, particularly when shooting in tight spaces.

Power

If you’re shooting around 8 hours of footage each day, you’re going to need some backup. We have an external power source, the Tethertools 100W battery to make sure that we don’t run out of juice when it really matters. This gives us enough power to run throughout the day and we can be confident that our batteries won’t be running low by the end of the day (at least our camera batteries anyway!).

Stability

We’re using the Sachtler Flowtech 75 tripod with the Activ 6 head. It’s of course an industry standard, light and fun to work with. The head is easy to balance from above, meaning that you don’t have to risk trapped fingers by fiddling around underneath.

For product shots and B-roll, we are using the Zhiyun Weebill 3 gimbal. It’s very light, compact and portable which is exactly what we need.

Special shots

We want to create some interesting footage for you all, so for this, we have brought two specialty cameras. The Insta 360 RS1, and the newly announced Insta 360 X3.

Editing

Once the footage is shot it gets rushed back to the media room for editing and posting. We use an Apple M1 laptop with an extra external screen for our portable editing station. We have an OWC FX 2TB drive with backup drives to ensure that nothing gets lost.

As you can see, our entire set-up revolves around versatility and portability. We need maximum quality combined with maximum ease of moving around, and these products help us fulfill these needs to the best of our abilities.
