First Luminar AI update brings even simpler editing and major bug fixes

Luminar AI was first introduced in September 2020, and shortly after, it got reflections in sky replacement. But now the program has launched its first update. It has made the already simple editing even simpler, and some of the major bugs have been fixed. So, let’s see what’s new in the Luminar AI 1.0.1.

Interface and other changes

The most obvious changes are in the Edit panel and the Import interface. The Edit panel now offers all Edit tools in a single list instead of tabs. Also, Essential, Creative, Portrait, and Pro tools are now color-coded, which is something I personally find helpful. As for the Import interface, there’s now the “+” icon in the toolbar that lets you choose between adding a folder and adding a single image.

There are a few more changes to the interface. The Enhance AI tool is now first in the Edit tools list and opens by default when you access the Edit panel. When you use the “For This Photo” templates, there are now left and right arrows to scroll through them. Finally, the Toning tool now has Shadows and Highlights buttons like other Luminar AI tools.

If you want to learn more about each tool in Luminar AI, you can now hover over the icons and learn what each of the features does. That’s another feature I find helpful because I always find it hard to find my way around new software after ages of using only Photoshop and Lightroom.

Bug fixes

The Luminar AI team writes that they spotted and fixed 111 bugs in total. Here are some of them that have been fixed:

macOS

  • Export photos and replace existing files in folders without crashes.
  • Move subfolders within a folder without a hitch.
  • Use Clone & Stamp on zoomed photos and enjoy a smooth result, without any artifacts or crashes.
  • Smoothly switch between Template previews with no more overlapping of the previous and next Templates preview.
  • Add PNG files to your textures in the Local Masking tool.
  • Use Cmd+Z or Undo in the Erase tool to go back one step instead of removing all previous adjustments.
  • The SkyAI tool now shows all images in the Custom list, including images with the TIFF or TIF extension.
  • Install LuminarAI as a plugin in Lightroom and Photoshop in a beat without duplicate files in the plugin folder.

Windows

  • No more issues with working in the Edit panel, when the screen is scaled to 150% and you’re viewing in full HD.
  • Apply changes in the Optics tool and switch to other tools without loss of image sharpness.
  • Experience a smooth, crash-free migration from Luminar 4 even if the Looks folder is inaccessible.
  • Achieve a realistic background blend when adding your custom Objects in PNG format using Augmented SkyAI.

How to update

Updating Luminar AI should be pretty straightforward: for macOS, click on LuminarAI in the top menu bar and choosing Check for updates. Windows users should click LuminarAI in the left-hand corner, then choose Help > Check for updates. I had the update offered automatically when I launched the program, so that can be a way to do it, too. If you have any issues, check the Lumiar AI user manual.

Now, let me know – do you use Luminar AI? Do you find it useful?
