Maier

Ten years ago, the name Vivian Maier wouldn’t ring a bell in anyones’ mind. Today, the name Vivian Maier is almost as well known as some of the pioneers of photography.

This all changed when a box of negatives captured by the unknown street photographer were found in 2007. Since then, much fanfare has been made and, naturally, a documentary into the life of Maier has been produced.

It’s titled Finding Vivian Maier and for the first time ever, the documentary is on Netflix as of February 27th, 2016.

To accompany the film, the trailer of which can be seen below, a book was produced, titled Vivian Maier: Street Photographer which featured the story and now-iconic images of Maier.

As the movie hits on, there’s an ongoing battle over who owns the rights to the roughly 100,000 images in the collection. This lead to many of the images being removed from the public. However, many other images appeared from another owner of Maier’s works sold his collection to a Toronto art gallery.
