Dogs aren’t called “man’s best friend” for nothing. Only I’d add cats, horses, birds and many other animals to this list. They are the creatures that fill our hearts with love and our day with laughter. And this year Animals Friends Comedy Pet Photography Awards confirms this. The contest has just announced its 2021 winners and if you still don’t have a pet – these photos will make you adopt one.

The 2021 Comedy Pet Photographer of the Year is Zoe Ross. the star of her hilarious image is Pepper, then a 9-week old Labrador puppy. The photo shows her playing with bubbles in the garden when an enormous, perfectly timed one floats down past her bottom and the photo was taken.

This silly image won Zoe a £2000 cash prize, a bespoke trophy, a goodie bag stuffed with goodies, and an official certificate. On hearing that she’d won the first prize, Zoe said:

“We never ever thought that we would win but entered the competition because we loved the idea of helping a charity just be sending in a funny photo of Pepper. She is such a little monkey, and very proud of herself, bringing in items from the garden and parading past you until you notice her.  She is the happiest puppy we’ve ever known and completely loved to pieces.”

As always, there are six more category winners and ten equally funny highly commended winners. Paul Joynson-Hicks Co-founder of the Comedy Pet Photo Awards said:

“Every year it is so exciting to see what our entrants come up with. This year there has been a fantastic response and we have had incredibly funny and well taken photos which made the judging so difficult. I just love the winning image, I mean, seriously! I think it appeals to the dog lover in me. Well Done, Zoe.  A perfectly timed photo!”

As always, the goal of the contest isn’t just to melt your heart and make you giggle. It also aims to raise awareness of animal welfare and raise money for UK charity Partner – Animal Support Angels. Thanks to this year’s partner, Animal Friends Insurance, the competition donated £10,000 to the cause.

Take a look at the category winners and highly commended images below. And once you’re done, go visit the nearest animal shelter and get yourself a best friend!
