The one that definitely caught my attention the most is Sky Swap AI: an AI-powered feature that lets you replace dull skies in your images. But there are other new features too, and it seems that On1 is serious about competing with Adobe and Skylum.
Who doesn’t love a Rube Goldberg machine? Recipient of the GoPro Awards, Cree Osner created this delightful video shot on a GoPro HERO8 Black and the GoPro MAX. Cree glued some peanuts to a domino and then had to wait a further 14 hours in a bush for a squirrel to set the machine off, that’s dedication!
Well, it looks like Nikon might have finally done something right. According to a Nikkei XTREND article, the Nikon Z fc released in July “has been a hit for the first time in a long time” for Nikon. It seems to be largely put down to its “appeal” towards both young people (who like that retro look) as well as middle-aged and older people (who used cameras when they did still look like that).
Obviously, the feature set offered by the camera is a contributing factor, too. But then, the Nikon Z50 offers a very similar feature set and that doesn’t seem to have done nearly as well. Of course, the Z fc does offer a few very nice perks over the Z 50, too. Like Eye AF while shooting video, a flippy out LCD and continuous external power.
We’ve featured some of Workphlo‘s brilliant product photography tutorials before, and Dustin Dolby doesn’t disappoint in this latest one. In this video, Dustin shows us how to capture a dramatic beer pour advertising style shot using just basic equipment. He explains that it’s fun to evoke some motion in an image, and pour shots are surprisingly simple to create. The entire set-up is compact and uses only an entry-level DSLR and 3 speedlights.
It looks like OM Digital is planning to announce a new Olympus camera at some point soon, according to a new camera registration spotted by Nokishita. The registration appears to simply be the wireless certification for a new camera, but the fact that it shows both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi suggests that it’s likely something high end.
So far, all we’ve seen from OM Digital since taking over Olympus is the Pen E-P7 – at least as far as cameras go – and that’s not even coming to a global market. Well, that and the fact that they’re renaming everything. So, this would mark their first international release of a new camera since taking over.
Right after announcing that it would scan your devices and iCloud for child sexual abuse images, Apple faced a strong backlash. So strong, in fact, that the company has decided to postpone the controversial feature. At least for a while.
Resolution is an often complex topic but even more so when it comes to how it relates to human vision. And it’s kind of a two-part question, to begin with. What resolution do cameras need to be to capture what the human eye sees? What resolution do screens need to be for the human eye to not be able to see the individual pixels?
But it’s even more complex than that, as this video from Vsauce explains. This isn’t a new video, but it seems to have popped back up to the fore again recently. I thought it was pretty fascinating, especially as the resolution debate never seems to end and we haven’t featured it here on DIYP before. So, here it is.
