Adobe has published a sneak peek video of a new feature that will make a lot of photographers happy. In an upcoming update of Photoshop CC, the selection process will become much easier. As a matter of fact, it will take you just one click to get the starting selection of your subject. Meet the Select Subject feature.
No matter which selection method you use, it’s still a painstaking process with some photos. Select Subject is an AI-powered feature, using their Adobe Sensei technology. The selections may still require some effort to get it done perfectly. But for that starting selection, the Select Subject Tool does a pretty good job:
It’s interesting that the feature works even if your photo has multiple subjects:
You can also use it in the Select and Mask workspace, so you can refine the mask edge:
This feature is designed to simplify the workflow of photographers and make it faster and more efficient. You can see in the demonstration video above how it works, and how close it gets to the perfect selection. Adobe hasn’t announced yet when exactly the Select Subject feature will be available. But whenever it happens, we’ll let you know. And we’ll all be waiting anxiously.

Any idea when this update is available for download. I have some cutting out to do for a client not sure if I should wait for this.
Probably not anytime soon. But dude, same. I spend too much of my day cutting stuff out
You could already do this in Mask Pro 4.1 either as stand alone or as a plug in to CS4. I still use it and it works better than anything Adobe have tried to create since. There is nothing you can’t do in the older programs that you can do better in the new ones and this I will never have an Adobe Subscription.
If only it selected her left arm.
Judging from the wall behind her. I think the color is too close to her skin tone so the tool was confused. But this much accuracy would be great enough. The rest we can fine tune it :D
The model and the street behind her seem very Eastern-European to my eye.
