The new Nikon D850 has many praised features, image quality and file size being among them. The camera features 45.7 MP backside illuminated sensor and allows shooting three sizes of RAW files. Until you get your hands on this camera, you can see the sample images from Nikon Imaging Japan and Dan Vojtech.

Nikon Japan shared hi-res sample JPG images, as well as two sample videos. Dan’s photos include photos shot at different settings and sizes, some of them are cropped at 100%, and you can also see the low light performance when D850 is compared to D800.

All Dan’s photos were shot as JPG in default settings, neutral picture control setting, no reductions, no sharpening. As for the photos from Nikon Japan, as DPReview reports, they are full-resolution JPEGs shot in 14-bit RAW and converted to JPEG using Capture NX-D.

Those are not 100% crops. Considering the camera’s resolution, the resolution of the crops and the amount of crop in relation to the original image, I’m pretty certain that they are 25% crops, in which there is one pixel for every four pixels on the original crop. Or to put it another way, 50% in each direction. At least on the image I checked, the statue one, but the others seem the same. To present something as a 100% crop, you must make the image available in the original resolution and not reduced to 25% as it seems to be the case.
