This is what the canon rubber thingy on your strap is for

If you own a Canon and use their strap. Have you ever wondered what that little rubber thingy on the end of the strap is? I did, and I don’t even use a Canon. Turns out this little rubber thingy is a cap. And not just a cap, it is used to block the view finder so there are zero light leaks and flares. It’s usefull for when you are doing extra long exposures, light shooting stars at night. Huge thanks to Bassam Sabbagh for sharing this tip with us.
Now if you wanna go out and shoot stars, this is how to start.

Mind blown
Seriously?? this is so basic guys.
I agree with you Robb Jubin. Most people now neglect reading the manual. Most of them would rather ask in FB photography groups about their inquiries even if the answer to their question is just in the manual.
I guess it is cheaper to do than the eyepiece shutter Nikon uses.
I guess nobody reads instruction manuals any more.
Ummm…. yeah … but a long exposure night photography with a strap attached is a serious No No!!! I guess Canon again didn’t listen in class… or they was missing then :)))
Both Canon and Nikon have this thing, but Canon version is better. Canon has the thing permanently attached to the strap, but Nikon thingy has a clip, that makes it really easy to lose. I myself am using Canon thingy, on my Nikon. And yes – it fits.
Had one of those covers for my old Minolta X700 years ago. The camera didn’t come with a good strap, I had to figure a way to attach it to the heavy duty strap I bought. Just realized my current avater is me with that camera back in the eighties. It was a great camera.
