Nikon May Have More New Cameras Coming Than We Thought

Nikon may have more cameras in the pipeline than its current lineup suggests. Nikon Rumors reports that the company has registered a new camera in China under the model number N2528, adding another entry to a growing list of Nikon bodies that have appeared in regulatory filings this year.

The new camera carries the CMIIT ID 26J99NA7E003 and was issued on August 24, 2026. The filing does not reveal the camera’s name, specifications, or launch date, so there is still plenty that remains unknown about the N2528.

Still, the registration provides another clue about Nikon’s upcoming products. It also follows two other camera registrations that appeared in China earlier this year, suggesting that Nikon has several new models in development.

Nikon Has Already Registered Two Other Cameras

According to Nikon Rumors, the N2528 is the third Nikon camera to appear in these recent Chinese regulatory records. The first was the N2324, registered under CMIIT ID 26J99NA7E001. Its approval was issued on April 7, 2026. A second model, the N2527, followed shortly after. It carries CMIIT ID 26J99NA7E002 and received approval on April 24.

Both cameras were registered with 5.1 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Nikon Rumors expects the N2528 to use the same wireless modules, although the filing itself does not identify the camera’s specifications.

The wireless details are notable because the module is associated with several of Nikon’s recent midrange and entry level Z series cameras. It supports the 5150 to 5350 MHz WiFi band and 2400 to 2483.5 MHz Bluetooth band.

That does not tell us what kind of camera the N2528 is, but it does offer a small clue about where it may sit in Nikon’s lineup.

More Camera Leaks Could Be Coming

Nikon’s latest registration is part of a much broader pattern across the camera industry.

Fujifilm, for example, has also had multiple camera registrations appear this year. Fuji Rumors reported that two cameras, identified as FF260001 and FF260002, were registered in April and July.

Some of these reports come from regulatory filings, while others originate from patents, supply chain information, or industry sources. They should not all be treated as confirmation that a product will reach store shelves.

For photographers, though, the growing number of registrations and leaks suggests that camera makers are continuing to develop new models across several categories, from full frame and APS C bodies to compact cameras and creator focused products.

The N2528 is still just a code name for now, but as more cameras emerge from regulatory databases, the mystery around Nikon’s next generation of Z cameras may not last much longer.
