These hilarious photos are friendly reminders that Instagram doesn’t reflect real life

Sure, we all know that what we see on Instagram is a carefully curated version of real life. But it’s easy to forget it sometimes. It’s easier than you think to fall into a trap of thinking that everyone has their sh*t together except you. This is why we occasionally need friendly reminders to tell us to snap out of it. And these hilarious side-by-side photos by Geraldine West are exactly what you need if you feel like Instagram has caught you into its “perfect life” trap.
While Geraldine is currently more focused on her cooking YouTube channel, she used to post a bunch of these amusing images. We’ve seen a couple of examples of a similar concept before, but Geraldine’s photos really caught my attention. For me personally, what sets her photos apart is that they’re more relatable than any other.
I’ll take just one example: Christmas. Everyone represents it as the most joyful, festive time of the year. Everyone’s Instagram is full of photos of decorated trees, perfectly wrapped presents, happy kids running around opening them… I, on the other hand, feel completely burnt out and lost in space and time around Christmas. Well, Geraldine pictured this feeling perfectly. If I posted photos of my Christmas mood to Instagram, they would look something like this:

Like the examples above, I relate to many more of Geraldine’s photos and the situations she shows in them. If I posted my daily life to Instagram, it would be filled with takeout food, Netflix, flu meds, antidepressants, and the gigantic mess I make when working on an embroidery piece. Nothing glamorous, really – and that’s perfectly fine.
It’s good to remember that the daily lives of most of us are far from being glamorous. It’s also good to remember that you don’t have to love Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s, or any other holiday everyone else seems to love. Remember to follow social media content that makes you feel good, and have fun watching more of Geraldine’s photos below.

The ones that say reality are ironically “fake” and posed ?♂️
??
I agree, but I see them more as acting of a sort; as exaggerating for sh*ts and giggles. :)
Although, I bought a new pair of jeans last week and I must say that the one from the fitting room is pretty accurate and life-like :D
Or at home trying to get into clothes after a year of lockdowns :-)
That’s why I had to buy a new pair. A size bigger than one I’m used to ?
