Luminar has launched Luminar on Web, a browser-based photo editor that handles RAW files. The basic version is free, while full access costs $69 as a one-time purchase. It has just gone live, and let’s see what it offers.
According to Skylum, the company behind Luminar, the editor runs on any device with a browser. No hardware, no install, just open the website, upload your photo, and start editing. Since the editing happens in the browser, you can also work with high-res photos and RAW files without eating up your device’s storage. Quite good news for those of us with a trash can instead of a computer.
What’s Inside
Luminar on Web comes with a decent toolset for something that lives in a browser tab:
- RAW editing: this is still rare among web-based editors, and it’s the headline feature.
- GenErase: Available in the PC-based editor too, this tool removes unwanted objects from a photo.
- Photo Restoration: restores and enhances older or damaged photos.
- Light Depth: lets you adjust and shape lighting to add depth and dimension.
- AI tools: Sky, Structure, Body, and Bokeh are available in Luminar on Web just as they are in the downloadable software.
- Presets and LUTs: both are available in the same editor.
- Cross-device sync and a shared Prime asset library: pick up your edits on another device.
Who is Luminar on Web For?
Luminar says it is the first browser-based editor with Light Depth technology. It also claims to be the first online editor offering Presets and LUTs together. With Luminar on Web, the company is aiming at two groups with one product. “Most web photo editors are designed for either advanced or casual users,” the company writes. “A web editor capable enough for advanced users yet simple enough for beginners is rare”. According to Skylum, this is where Luminar on Web jumps in. Beginners get access to RAW editing and Light Depth without a steep learning curve. Experienced photographers get a way to edit on the go, beyond templates and basic adjustments.
Ivan Kutanin, CEO of Skylum, says about the launch:
“As a company building photo-editing products for hobbyist photographers, our mission is to amplify the joy of editing. The Luminar on Web is another step in that direction. With this launch, we are officially turning Luminar into a multiplatform product to make high-quality photo editing more accessible. And by this I mean ease of use, reach, and first step.”
Price and Availability
Luminar says it is the first and only photo editor with a lifetime license across all options: desktop, mobile, and web. Great news for anyone tired of subscriptions. So, if you wanna try Luminar on Web, you can do it for free on the website and use it like that forever if the basic functions cover your needs. If you like what you see or you’re intrigued to unlock more, the full access to Luminar on Web is $69.
