2020 has definitely been the most unusual year we’ve lived in. The coronavirus pandemic has changed everything, from daily chores to big life events – including weddings. This is Reportage has chosen the best documentary wedding photos of this weird year, and they’re really something else! They show raw and unstaged moments of 2020 “corona-weddings,” and they are proof that nothing can stop the love.

This is Reportage is a website that’s all about documentary wedding photography, founded by photographer Alan Law. The photos from this series show the moments we got used to seeing during the pandemic: masks, social distancing, elbow bumps, and other things that you’ll agree are atypical for weddings. While they are coronavirus-themed, they are a part of larger collections that you’ll find on the website.

The Awards at This is Reportage regularly see over 12,000 submissions, Alan writes. These 25 images are just the top few percent that has been awarded by the judges over the past few months during the pandemic.

I’m not much of a fan of staged wedding photos, I prefer documentary ones. And oh boy did I enjoy these! They are unusual just like this year has been, but unlike 2020, they made me feel optimistic. Take a look at the rest of the selection below, and make sure to follow This is Reportage on its website, Facebook, and Instagram.

When one of our couples weddings was going to be postponed until further notice we decided to host them in our front yard instead. The couple stood in front of our blooming flowers and the arch we built just for them with decorations they brought themselves. The weather was perfect. Their family sat in chairs and wore masks and cheered. And the couple hosted them all for a dinner afterwards. You do what you gotta do for love.

Love lives on, but I do feel so very sad for these couples who have had to drastically change their wedding plans.
