Screw-on filters are designed to be a protective cover for the front element of your lens (in addition to any aesthetic alteration they provide). But just because they’re meant to take the brunt of an impact in the event you drop your lens doesn’t mean it’s any less hurtful to watch them shatter to pieces.

No need to worry any more though. Filter manufacturer Heliopan has announced it will start offering the industry’s first drop protection warranty on all of its UV and protection filters.

In the announcement Heliopan says all UV and protection filters purchased after January 1st, 2016 will automatically be enrolled in the program.

When the unfortunate day does happen, simply contact the Heliopan Service Department, package up the broken filter with a proof of purchase, ship it back to Heliopan and you will receive a replacement free of charge.

Note though that it’s a one-time deal only though, so try not to shatter the replacement.

There’s no word yet on whether this warranty will apply to Heliopan’s other filter line-ups down the road, but we’ll be sure to update you if it does.

In the meantime, you can head on over to B&H and check out Heliopan’s current UV filter lineup.
