TikToker hides tiny camera on suitcase to see what happens at the airport

If you’ve ever travelled long haul and got your suitcase back in a distinctly questionable condition, this might be the video for you! I’ve often wondered what on earth goes on behind the scenes at the airport. Well, apparently, so did one TikToker, who attached a tiny camera to his suitcase to film what happened to it.

Thomas Miller attached an Insta 360 Go 2 to his suitcase before dropping it t the check-in desk. He then proceeded to film the suitcase’s eye view of its incredible journey around the airport until it reached its destination.

We watch Miller attach the camera and then wheel the case to the bag drop. The bag is then sent along a maze of conveyer belts, past baggage handlers and security staff. Finally, it’s packed onto the baggage truck at the airport, ready to be placed onto the plane.

The case takes multiple twists and turns and has many bumps along the way. This is why cases need to be well-built. On one occasion, I had a case split in half from top to bottom. If you’re carrying any kind of camera or lighting equipment, it really does pay to use proper flight cases and make sure they fit inside the size and weight restrictions before arriving at the airport. Otherwise, you could be denied taking them or pay a hefty overweight/oversize fee.

Another handy trick, if you’re flying with extra weight, is to compare the cost of flying business class with the cost of an economy class seat. Business class passengers get up to 32 kilos of luggage allowance compared with the usual 20-23 kilos in economy. Do the maths, sometimes it actually works out cheaper to pay for a business class seat than to pay for overweight fees.

The video has had over 17 million views so far, so it’s safe to say that other people are fascinated by the airport behind the scenes. However, outside the USA, it may not be legal to film these places without permission.

I don’t know about you, but having seen the state of my suitcase after flying, I’d be leery of putting a camera so expensive on the outside of my case. It is likely to fall off, get stolen or get completely trashed!
