Yongnuo finally starts to unify their flash systems with the new YN560-TX Pro

A couple of years ago, I made a post about why I could no longer recommend Yongnuo to flash newcomers over Godox. In short, their systems were just too fragmented, with one piece of kit often not being compatible with another, despite both bearing the same brand. It might have taken Yongnuo a couple of years to catch on, but it looks like they’re finally making an attempt to unify their flash systems.

Yongnuo has today announced the recently teased Yongnuo YN560-TX Pro trigger, a follow up to their previous YN560-TX trigger. The new “Pro” system, however, integrates Yongnuo’s two most popular radio trigger systems into one. Namely the YN560 and the YN-622 (their TTL/HSS triggers).

If you can’t beat ’em, copy ’em – Yongnuo announces YN200 portable strobe

Yongnuo has just announced their new YN200 “Speedlite”. Following their tradition of making products that are highly “inspired” by other products made by other companies, this one looks almost exactly like the Godox AD200 – although with some slight differences.

The two main external differences are that the bare bulb appears to be fixed, rather than an interchangeable head like the AD200, and it has a very different looking battery pack which looks like it takes up almost half of the whole rear of the unit.

Two years later, Yongnuo finally releases the 85mm f/1.8 AF lens for Nikon F Mount

The Yongnuo 85mm f/1.8 lens was originally spoken way back in 2016, along with the announcement of the Yongnuo 100mm f/2. The 85mm f/1.8 for Canon EF did come, eventually, and then all mention of an F mount version disappeared, almost as if Yongnuo never intended to actually release it. But now, the lens suddenly appears to have popped up on eBay.

When this camera was first teased last October, my mind was stuck somewhere between “wtf?” and “this is so crazy, it just might work!”. They made the camera sort-off official a few days later by releasing some early specs, which just made me even more confused at this odd combination of tech. Since then, it’s all been a little quiet on the Yongnuo front.

But now, the folks at Cinema5D had the chance to chat with Yongnuo about the new camera during CP+ 2019 and hold one in their hands. It confirms a lot of the specs and answers some questions that had thus far remained unanswered.

When Yongnuo teased a new mirrorless camera the other day, there wasn’t really any information to go along with it. Pretty much the only thing we new for sure was that it had 4G capability. But we could make a few assumptions based on what we saw and prior Yongnuo history.

Now, some of those assumptions have been confirmed as Yongnuo has released the specs for the yet-to-be-named new camera, which currently bears the code YN450. And there are a couple of surprises…

Yongnuo is releasing a new Android mirrorless camera with built-in 4G

A year ago, I called out Yongnuo for not being able to keep up with Godox. Their flashes seemed to have stalled in development and they had randomly switched from making inexpensive, but not completely terrible, speedlights to cheap copycat lenses. Now, though, it looks like they’re trying to break into the camera market.

Well, we weren’t sure that it was going to happen, but Yongnuo has released their YN50mm f/1.4 lens for Nikon F mount. The lens was released originally released in EF mount for Canon back in March. But now Nikon users get to have a play. It’s essentially identical to the Canon version in every way except for the mount, which has added a few grams to the weight, too.

Yongnuo’s new 50mm f/1.4 lens keeps up with Canon at less than 2/3rds the price

Yongnuo has been coming pretty thick and fast with lenses over the last couple of years. Sure, they’re generally copies of somebody else’s lens, but they’re cheap and, for the most part, seem to perform fairly well considering the price. Announced last month, the Yongnuo 50mm f/1.4, though, looks to be of their own design.

The first review of the new lens has now been posted to YouTube by Christopher Frost, and it appears to be pretty favourable. It not only keeps up, for the most part, with Canon’s 65% more expensive 50mm f/1.4 USM, but it even seems to beat it in some aspects.
