Heartbreaking portrait of a woman from Evia wins 2022 Siena International Photo Awards

Last year, Siena International Photo Awards showed us some of the most moving photos we’ve ever seen. The results of the 2022 contest are now out, and as always – they didn’t disappoint.

This year’s overall winner is the photo titled Woman from Evia, shot by Greek photographer Konstantinos Tsakalidis. But other than the overall winner, the contest shares winners and runner-ups across its 11 categories, so there are plenty of stunning photos and videos to admire.

Captivating photo of a volcanic fissure wins Drone Photo Awards 2022

Aerial photography gives us a unique perspective even on the scenes that we see every day. But when they capture powerful moments like volcano eruptions and fissures, they make us gasp in awe.

The Drone Photo Awards contest has shared its 2022 winners, and the overall winner shows a volcanic fissure captured from above. It was shot in Iceland and portrays a secondary fissure happening a few hundred meters from the main crater of Fagradalsfjall volcano during its eruptive phase in September 2021.

This abstract visual comment on pollution wins the Creative Photo Awards

Portuguese photographer André Boto has won the title of overall winner of the 2022 edition of the Creative Photo Awards, the competition dedicated to artistic and creative photography at the Siena Awards. The image shines the spotlight on pollution in a clever and thought-provoking way.

“Pollution is a real problem that affects us all,” says  Boto about his image titled ‘The False illusion’. “There are often attempts to camouflage or minimize this problem,” he continues, “the big manufacturing companies and the powers that be try to hide an issue that is real and brings sequels, creating the illusion that it is a distant problem, but in fact, we are already facing it today and leave with a great disadvantage to solve it at this moment.”

Siena International Photo Awards (SIPA) never fails to take us for a ride on an emotional rollercoaster. The contest has announced this year’s winners, and it’s done it again. The entire selection is, once again, nothing short of amazing. But the photo of the year is the most moving image I’ve seen lately.
