I’ve become a big fan of Litra’s super tough LED lights. We even use the LitraPro LED as an on-camera light when we cover shows. So when I heard that they were bringing out a big, powerful RGBWW LED light, I had to see it for myself. So, we stopped by the Litra stand at IBC 2019 to have a look at it in person, and find out more about it.
Manfrotto’s new “Fast” series tripods are optimised for setup speed
At IBC 2019, we stopped by the Manfrotto stand to check out their new “Fast” series video tripods. There are two products in the new line. There’s the 635 Fast Single Leg and the 645 Fast Twin Leg. The latter looks more like your traditional video tripod, while the Fast Single resembles a photo tripod, but with a bowl head at the top for a video head. Both offer setup speed and low weight for their size as their big advantages.
The ultralight Moza AirCross 2 lets you mount the Pocket 4K without a cage – even vertically
The recently announced Moza AirCross 2 is the latest 3-axis motorised gimbal from Gudsen. It was originally teased at NAB 2019, but now it’s been officially announced and is available to order. Gudsen were showing off the Moza AirCross 2 at IBC 2019 in Amsterdam, so we went to go talk to them and find out more about it.
And, yes, while this will upset some and make others giddy, you can mount your camera to it vertically. Of course, it does accept cameras the old fashioned horizontal way, too.
The Godox R1 and RF1 look a lot like the Profoto C1/C1+ except Godox announced them first
I missed this while I was away at IBC 2019, and they didn’t have any on the Godox stand, but Godox has announced a couple of new lights aimed at smartphone photographers that look a whole lot like the Profoto C1 & C1+ announced recently. Profoto can’t really accuse Godox of copying this time, though, as the Godox lights were actually announced first.
The news of the Godox R1 and RF1 was overshadowed by the launch of the FV150, VL150 and VL300, but now I’m starting to read up about the R1/RF1, they look pretty cool. They’re designed for use with smartphones, and one is a continuous light only, while the other offers continuous and flash capabilities.
The SmallHD Focus Bolt 500 RX is a 5″ 4K wireless monitor with a built in Teradek receiver
The merging of technologies is tricky. Sometimes it succeeds and sometimes it fails miserably. One fantastic idea, though, was to combine the SmallHD Focus 5 monitor with the Teradek Bolt 500 RX. And that idea exists in the form of the SmallHD Focus Bolt 500 RX. We went to visit the SmallHD stand at IBC 2019 and spoke to SmallHD co-founder and CTO, Dale Backus to find out more about it.
The Lightpanels Gemini 1×1 RGBWW is a customisable, full colour LED panel
The Litepanels Gemini 2×1 announced in 2017 received a very warm reception on its release. Those who have purchased and use them absolutely love them. But sometimes you need something a little smaller, so Litepanels announced the Gemini 1×1 earlier this year. We heard that Litepanels were going to be at IBC 2019, so we decided to swing by the stand to find out more about them and what they can do.
This is what the $10,000+ OConnor 1040 tripod looks like
OConnor is a name that’s been held in high regard in Hollywood for years for their fluid video tripod heads. In fact, their inventor, Chadwell O’Connor won Academy Awards for them in 1975 and 1992. Now part of the Vitec group, OConnor has been able to combine their heads with Flowtech legs into a single package. The OConnor 1040 Flowtech. It costs $10,260, and we had to see it for ourselves. So, while we were at IBC 2019, we did. And oh boy, is it a nice tripod.
Anton Bauer has shrunk their Titon SL batteries to pack more power into less space
These days, almost everything we use for photography or video is battery powered, from cameras themselves to sliders, gimbals, monitors, lights, portable backup solutions and all other kinds of doohickies. One of the biggest names in batteries for photographers and filmmakers is Anton Bauer, but their batteries are shrinking, with the new Titon SL series offering larger capacities in smaller cases. We caught up with them at IBC 2019 to find out more.
Lighticians lets you control you DMX lights wirelessly from your phone with full colour control
As LED lights have gotten more powerful and colour accurate, they’ve pretty much become the new standard for continuous lighting, replacing the more traditional tungsten lights on-set. One of the things LED lights have now started to incorporate more often is DMX lighting control. Conceived in the 1980s, DMX allows the remote control of one or multiple lights from a single control base. Lighticians lets you do this, too, using existing DMX systems, all from the screen of your smartphone. We chatted with Lighticians at IBC 2019 to find out more.
The Accsoon CineEye turns your phone or tablet into a wireless touchscreen HDMI field monitor
The Accsoon CineEye has been out for a little while now, but it didn’t launch without issue. Accsoon has listened to user feedback, replaced the WiFi chip, updated some code, and essentially re-released it. We paid a visit to the Accsoon stand at IBC 2019 to find out all about it and how it works. It looks pretty impressive, though, taking a standard HDMI input from your camera and streaming it to a tablet or phone with many of the features you’d expect from an expensive field monitor.
