Phase One has announced IQ3 100MP Achromatic, their new achromatic medium format digital back. It’s produced without Bayer color filter, which means it captures no color information. It produces monochromatic images in high resolution and details, without the distraction of colors. IQ3 100MP Achromatic features a 53.4 x 40.1 CMOS sensor, like its “colorful” brother IQ3 100MP. But the color model reaches the ISO of 12,800, while the IQ3 100MP Achromatic goes up to 51,200. Other than high ISO, this camera captures all wavelengths of light, which expands your options even further. It sees the light that’s typically nor visible to the naked eye.
It also offers 60 minutes of long exposure and dynamic range of 15 f-stops. Like the previous models from the series, it comes with 3.2” touch display and Wi-Fi connection. These are only some of the specs, and you can download the full list of specs here, compared to other IQ3 and IQ1 models.
Phase One puts the focus of this camera mainly on portrait, landscape and architecture photographers, who can use it to capture fine details of their fine art photos in black and white. As you may expect – this beauty comes with a price. IQ3 100MP Achromatic digital back costs $49,990, while you need to cash out $54,990 for the digital back, XF Camera body and the lens you choose.
