Nikon Will Increase Lens Prices In Europe Up To 30% Come January 1st, 2016

Euros

In a very odd move, considering its less-than-glowing financial reports, Nikon will be increasing lens prices in Europe as of the beginning of 2016.

Over 30 lenses and teleconverters will be affected by this increase, which is expected to range between 4.28% and 29.4%.

Nikon has also started selling refurbished gear in certain European countries, perhaps as a cheaper alternative to the now even-more expensive retail prices.

Following reports of upcoming price increases in the UK, Nikon Rumors shared today a list of 32 lenses and teleconverters that will see a price spike in just over a month.

The price increases are expected to take place in all countries using the Euro, and possibly the entire continent regardless of currency.

NR mentions that there’s currently no information about expected price increases in the US, but that in the worst case the rebates will be cancelled.

My guess is that European customers will soon start seeing more Nikon rebates if the price increases don’t go as well as the company hopes.

EU citizens can at least find comfort in the fact that Nikon has expanded its refurbished business to Europe, which will offer cheaper alternatives on select gear. That being said, the refurbished gear is currently being sold only in Belgium, Denmark, France and the Netherlands.

Below is the list of gear with the current and expected price. Please note that NR points out these are the prices dealers pay Nikon for the gear, so customers will be paying more than the figure shown. That being said, the price and percentage change should give you an idea as to the new consumer price.

It is also worth mentioning that neither the 24-70mm VR nor the 200-500mm lenses appear on the list. For some reason Nikon’s newest releases aren’t expected to see a price increase and I can only assume this is due to their current selling price already being adjusted or the fear of hurting their sales.

If the lens you’re planning to buy is on the list, you might want to make the purchase before the end of the year and save a bit of cash.
Also make sure to check out the Cyber Monday / Black Fridays deals page, in case your lens shows up there.
