Nikon has released new versions of its array of software to provide support for the Nikon Z8 (buy here). Updated applications include Camera Control Pro, Picture Control Utility, Wireless Tether Transmitter Utility, NX Tether and NX Studio. The last one on that list, NX Studio, also sees a range of other enhancements for NEF (HLG) and HEIF support. The new updates are all available to download now from the Nikon website, and links are provided below, along with the release notes for each new version update.

The SnapBridge apps for both iOS and Android have also been updated to provide support for the Nikon Z8. These apps are available to download and update on your device from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store for iPhone and Android users, respectively.

Nikon NX Studio V1.4.0

  • Added support for the Z 8.
  • Added support for NEF (HLG) and HEIF photos created on a camera.
  • Added [Skin softening] and [Portrait impression balance] tools under [Portrait Enhancements] in the [Adjustments] tab; in addition, values for these settings can now be viewed under [File & Camera Information] in the [Info] tab.
  • Added [HEIF (HLG)] and [HEIF (PQ)] options for [Export as].
  • Entries for [Categories] in the [XMP/IPTC] tab can now be up to 256 characters long.
  • Made the point icons for [Color Control Point] easier to click.
  • Fixed the following issues:
    • Errors would sometimes occur when pictures were printed with [Outside Bottom Right] selected for [User Comment] > [Position].
    • NEF (RAW) pictures exported from ViewNX 2 after editing would sometimes be distorted.
    • Profiles for pictures exported in NEF (RAW) format would sometimes not contain the expected information.
    • Using keyboard controls to label pictures after zooming in would prevent the arrow keys being used for selecting pictures.
    • Selecting [Delete original files after transfer] in Nikon Transfer 2 would sometimes result in transfer being interrupted.
