Peak Design Unveils The New Pro Tripod, Co-Developed with Filmmaker Jimmy Chin

Time is running out to snag Peak Design’s highly anticipated Pro Tripod at a Kickstarter-exclusive discount. With just 24 hours left before the campaign closes (Saturday, August 16th at 12 AM PT), photographers and filmmakers have a final window to secure the lightweight, feature-packed tripod before its global launch in November. And *spoiler* you might want to because this tripod is amazing!

The Pro Tripod is co-developed with renowned filmmaker and adventurer Jimmy Chin and has completely smashed expectations, pulling in $4 million from nearly 5,000 backers. The campaign officially wraps at 12:00 a.m. PT on Saturday, August 16th. Until that clock runs out, Kickstarter is the only place you can get the Pro Tripod at a discount ahead of its global release in November (exact date still under wraps).

A Tripod That Doesn’t Trip Over Itself

Peak Design says the Pro Tripod has been in the works for years, with a design goal of fixing the one thing every photographer and filmmaker complains about: bulk. The result is a truly compact form factor that packs down smaller than a water bottle (for the smallest size), deploys in seconds, and still offers the rock-solid stability you’d expect from a pro-grade tripod.

The tripod legs use a space-saving nesting design, and the ball head allows for one-handed adjustment without any awkward knobs. It’s built from premium materials, and like all Peak Design gear, it’s backed by their lifetime warranty.

Real World Tested

It’s also been put thoroughly to the test by adventure filmmaker Jimmy Chin who isn’t just a celebrity endorser, he helped design the tripod, making sure it would hold up mountainsides. Peak Design says Chin’s input directly influenced the tripod’s portability and field usability.

Three Sizes

The Pro Tripod comes in three sizes: Pro Lite, Pro, and Pro Tall. All of them are built for heavier gear and more rugged conditions. The Pro Tall reaches a height of 197.4cm (about 6.5 feet), which is roughly 30% taller than the original Travel model. And despite the increased size, the tripod keeps a packable footprint and backpack-friendly weight.

Final prices will land at $799.95 for the Pro Tripod Lite, $899.95 for the Pro Tripod, and $999.95 for the Pro Tripod Tall.

Grab it While You Can

For those still on the fence, Kickstarter remains the only way to lock in a discount ahead of the Pro Tripod’s retail release. Once the campaign wraps, early adopters will have to wait until November to get their hands on it, at a higher price.

So if you’ve been telling yourself you’ll “check it out later,” you’ve officially run out of later. The link’s still live…for now.

Like with all kickstart campaigns, caution should be taken; however, Peak Design has an excellent track record.
