Peak Design has just announced its latest tripod, the Pro Tripod, designed in collaboration with adventure photographer and filmmaker Jimmy Chin. The new model builds on the success of the brand’s 2019 Travel Tripod, but with significant upgrades aimed at professionals who need greater stability, portability, and versatility.
The new Pro Tripod takes all the good things from the Travel Tripod, such as lightweight portability, and the tighter, packable design. However, the Pro Tripod has taken that core concept and upgraded it everywhere that matters with greater strength, height, and versatility.

Key Features of the Pro Tripod
The Pro Tripod comes in three sizes: Pro Lite, Pro, and Pro Tall. All of them are built for heavier gear and more rugged conditions. The Pro Tall reaches a height of 197.4cm (about 6.5 feet), which is roughly 30% taller than the original Travel model. And despite the increased size, the tripod keeps a packable footprint and backpack-friendly weight.

- Stronger Build: A fully CNC-machined hub, flanged centre column, and thicker legs double the weight capacity (now 40 lbs vs. 20 lbs) while increasing max height by up to 30% (the Pro Tall model reaches 197.4cm).
- Improved Ball Head: The redesigned Pro Ball Head now includes fluid panning, and with the optional Tilt Mod accessory, it can function as a fluid pan-and-tilt head, eliminating the need for a separate video tripod.
- ARCA-Compatible Quick-Lock: A new quick-release system ensures a secure, tool-free camera attachment.
- Compact & Backpack-Friendly: Despite the upgrades, Peak Design maintains its focus on portability, keeping the tripod lightweight and packable.

Designed with Real-World Testing
Jimmy Chin, known for his extreme-environment photography and filmmaking, played a key role in refining the design of the Pro Tripod. He tested multiple prototypes in harsh conditions, ensuring the final product meets the demands of adventure photographers and filmmakers.

“Peak Design has been an important part of the gear I use to support my shoots over the years,” says Chin. “Collaborating on the Pro Tripod only enhanced my interest in their design ethos, and I’m incredibly excited to help bring to life a tool that will further the creative workflows of countless photographers and filmmakers,” he adds.

Price and Availability
The Pro Tripod is launching via Kickstarter on June 17, 2025, with limited-time discounts up to 27% off the retail prices. However, as always with these early bird offers there is limited availability. Final prices will land at $799.95 for the Pro Tripod Lite, $899.95 for the Pro Tripod, and $999.95 for the Pro Tripod Tall.

As always, do your due diligence with Kickstarter campaigns; however, Peak Design is a highly reputable brand which always delivers stellar quality products, so with this, we think it’s pretty fail-safe.
