If you can’t get enough of photography and have always hankered after a trip to Europe, then this photography inspired board game might be just the thing. Zoom in Barcelona is a classic table top based board game, where the players must race each other around the hot spots of the Catalunyan city, competing to take the ‘best’ photo.
“Hop on a bike, catch a taxi or a bus to get to the best spots before the other players,” says the blurb. During the game you will take photos of its beautiful locations and the iconic structures that create the skyline of Barcelona.
Additionally Barcelona has over 400 hidden dragons around the city that must be found to win the game. Many artists and architects have included dragons in their works, including the modernist architect Gaudí.
The game is for 2 to 6 players. The players win points when they take photographs at specific locations such as the cathedral or Gardens of Montjuïc. The one with the most points wins the photography contest. More advanced players can use their camera’s zoom, or operate along the ‘natural light’ route. The game is automatically over once the 8th landmark has been photographed.
It sounds like a fun concept, particularly for people planning to visit the city of Barcelona. It seems like it could be a great way to involve kids and teens in planning the itinerary and deciding which places you want to visit. And then of course, you can go there with your real cameras and take real photographs!
The game is designed by Nuria Casellas, Eloi Pujadas, and Joaquim Vilalta, and published in the USA by Blue Orange Games. Since Zoom Barcelona was published, the designers have created Zoom in Kobe, a similar photography based game based this time in Japan.
