The Max Stone (Amazon | B&H) is a little IR- based camera remote that was successfully funded on kickstarter in February, earlier this year. The Max Stone aims to connect your camera and your smartphone with their app and dongle, enabling you to wirelessly trigger your camera with your phone. The app also allows for multiple other features like a time-lapse mode, thief protection and weather information.

One of the main selling points of the recently announced Sony alpha a7II is its 5-axis in-camera image stabilization. YouTube user Sean Ellenwood uploaded a video yesterday that shows how the Sony’s 4.5 stops of stabilization exactly work. Since stabilization is done in-camera it should also work with 3rd-party lenses.
Red Bull’s 360° ‘Tiny World’ Surf Video Tries to Redefine ‘The Future Of Extreme Footage’
These “Tiny World” GoPro videos seem to pop out of nowhere from time to time, and we love them because up till a few years a go you needed to be a big agency with a ton of budget to make one, but now, it is just a few gopros. Red Bull however took this whole trend to the next level by capturing one of their athletes surfing in 360°.
As it is explained on Red Bull’s website, the camera crew strapped a meter long pole to the athlete’s body (because putting the 4 GoPro cameras on his helmet would both fail to capture his face and the entire bottom would be his body). The final result is one of the best-executed “Tiny World” videos I’ve ever seen.
Planet Labs Is Putting 4kg Cameras In Orbit All Around Earth
Although the access to satellite imagery has never been as broadly available as today, it is still not without its issues. The pictures are often very old because shooting a satellite up to (near) space with a rocket is just crazy expensive. In fact, according to Will Marshall, building a satellite can cost up to $85o,000,000 (yup, this is a 7 zeros figure) and weigh over 3 tons in avarage. Planet Labs however aims to revolutionize satellite images by building cheaper, smaller (think Red Epic size) and lighter (4kg) devices that are capable of updating pictures daily. Will Marshall, co-founder of Planet Labs recently gave a TED- Talk.
DJI Announces New 4k Capable Drone – Competition Is Silent
DJI recently announced the new “Inspire Quadcopter” that is capable of shooting 4k video and 12mp stills. The relatively affordable sub- 3000$ drone is DJI’s second drone with an integrated camera and gimbal.

Capturing motion is in a photos that essentially freezes a moment in time is not trivial; We’ve shared works showing motion by literally freezing a high speed movement or by intentionally letting it blur. Matthew Pillsbury has a knack for capturing motion. He takes long exposure photos freezing all but the movement of people. In his recent photos, which are exhibited in Tokyo and New York, Matthew took photos of vibrant fast-paced urban areas of cities all around the globe. The results are hypnotizing.

Is Depth Of Field Affected By Focal Length? A Practical Test
The fact that the depth of field varies depending on focal length seems pretty straightforward, doesn’t it? Matt Granger however says that wide angle lenses don’t necessarily have a smaller depth of field when compared to longer telephoto lenses:
To understand any of this, you have to know what depth of field is: (Yes, this is very basic) Depth of field is basically the depth of your image that is in sharp focus, it is usually about 1/3 in front of your focus and 2/3 behind it.
In his video, Matt conducts a test to prove his point: He takes the same shot with the same framing and only changes the focal length and the position of the camera. The aperture was kept the same – f/2.8 – throughout the shoot. Of course when changing the focal length of your lens you’ll have to physically move the camera if you want your final result to have the same crop.
