Vows under Iceland’s ice win the 2024 International Wedding Photographer of the Year Awards

For the 8th year in a row, the International Wedding Photographer of the Year Awards celebrates love and splendid photography. This year’s Grand Winner, Icelandic photographer Bettina Vass, has captured not just a stunning image but also the spirit of adventure and love in its purest form. The winning photo frames a couple surrounded by the glacial blues of Iceland—a wedding day like no other.

Bettina’s breathtaking photo was taken inside the surreal Katla Ice Cave. It tells a story of romance and nature’s awe-inspiring beauty. The image also won the Epic Location and Emerging Artist categories, earning Bettina well-deserved recognition.

Mauli and Christian, the couple in the winning shot, exchanged vows atop a glacier as the sun set, creating a moment of joy and wonder that Bettina brought to life with her lens. “This Award is the absolute Iceland on the cake,” she shared, reflecting on her journey from kindergarten teacher to celebrated wedding photographer in just five years.

The competition saw over 2,000 entries from photographers in 63 countries. Awards curator Luke Simon remarked on the immense talent showcased, with this year marking a 50% increase in photographers submitting entries.

Ewelina Puk, the competition’s overall runner-up, captured the dynamic energy of a wedding party with her Dance Floor category-winning image. Other category winners included photographers who excelled in areas like Couple Portraits, Black & White, and Solo Portraits.
